With the Kadena Base just up the road, it's not surprising that the streets are full of American adverts, chain restaurants and 24-hour shops. But it's all rather tacky and, apart from its hotels and restaurants, the city doesn't really have anything to offer the majority of tourists.</p> <p>The city centre is the Goya crossroads , where Highway 330 and Kuko-dori meet. There's a branch of Ryukyu Bank on its northwest corner. If you need a place to stay, try one of the hotels just south on the highway. Of these, the friendly Sunrise Hotel (tel 098/933-0171, fax 932-6221; Ľ7000-10,000) offers the cheapest rooms, but is still comfortably furnished with TV, fridge and large bathrooms. The next-door Hotel City Plaza (tel 098/933-5599, fax 932-5944; Ľ10,000-15,000), on the other hand, is a more modern establishment that's only a touch pricier. Eating options are more limited. Across the highway from the hotels, the Nakanomachi nightlife district has a number of snack bars and steak houses. There's more of the same on the city's main shopping street, Chuo Park Avenue, to the left of Highway 330 a few blocks north from the Goya crossing.</p> </body>
